Mitch Seavey, an 8-time Iditarod finisher and second-generation dog musher, won the event, and was closely followed by his 17-year-old son Tyrell Seavey, who placed second.  Tyrell is the defending Junior Iditarod Champion.  He will be competing in his fourth and final Junior Iditarod this year before taking to the Iditarod Trail on a snowmobile to cover the race for Ultimate Iditarod.  Mitch Seavey is no stranger to the winner's circle.  Mitch won the 1997 and 1998 Copper Basin 300 and the 1999 Grand Portage Passage.  He placed second in the 2000 Grand Portage Passage, and has finished as high as fourth in the Iditarod.  Before running in this year's Iditarod, Mitch will compete in the Tustumena 200 next week.
