Snowcrest Racing Sled Dogs--Jim Gallea
I am writing this literally last thing before we head out for Alaska. Because we live and train in Montana, we must travel north every year to get to the Iditarod. This means that we have to have all of our gear and equipment packed up and ready several days before the Alaskan mushers do, and we are busy!!
I have been
up all night making final modifications to my main racing sled, packing up the
winter gear that I will need for the race, and getting everything set for the
Ultimate Iditarod Snowmobilers to hit the trail during the race.
The dog food and supplies that we need out on the trail were sent up about 10 days ago. The arrived in Anchorage on the 13th of February as a part of "Food Drop Day" when every musher brings his or her food and equipment for the trail into Anchorage. From Anchorage, the race takes care of getting the food and supplies to each designated checkpoint.
We'll have more on food drops and preparing for the drive up to Alaska as soon as we arrive in Alaska. For now, I have to run, then sit for a long time, and drive....
