The Finish Line
Actual mileage from Wasilla: 1015 miles
March 13, 1:00 p.m.
Well, he made it again! Mitch finished in 11th place in a time of 9days 14hours 25minutes and 10seconds. While we are always striving for excellence and our goal is to some day win the race, right now we are more than happy with his impressive 11th-place finish.

Mitch with wife, Janine, under the burled arch |
Mitch was plenty tired and sore when he got here at 12:25 this morning. He had been peddling and pushing the sled to help his dogs and maintain a faster pace for the last 300 miles. After spending a few minutes petting his dogs and congratulating them on an excellent job he left in search of a hot shower and a warm bed.

Right now we are spending our time focusing on what we did wrong, or different, compared to the winners. The Iditarod champion has to master a million different factors in order to win this event. If you didn't win the absolute best possible thing you can do is analyze the person who did and try to learn and improve your own operation. We had some trouble this year with sick dogs, some injuries and a lack of fast leaders. All of those things we can work on doing better next year but they're a good illustration of how much luck is involved with this sport.
We have 354 days until the next Iditarod start. We better start planning!
